Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
