The British designer Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
