Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few key adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
