Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The large audience will hear a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The focus of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own gradual return to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
