Israelis have gathered across the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted assault on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in the neighboring country over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident led to in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are considered reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"The aggressive adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will not present a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The national leadership delayed state commemorations until October 16th - after the end of the religious holiday season - but events still occurred around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the affected families, it was broadcast on Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was respected throughout the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams gathered in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to review the provisions of the agreement.

A prominent Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations revealed that an evening round of indirect talks commenced at 7 PM local time.

The representative said the morning session ended without tangible results, amid differences over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not recommence hostilities after the first phase of the agreement.

He added that the talks are "challenging and have yet to achieve any real breakthrough," but noted that intermediaries are striving to narrow the differences between the conflicting groups.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • An enduring truce
  • The trade of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Future administration of the region

Public Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, young Hagar - whose sibling lived through the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were killed and numerous more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - explained: "Nowhere appears as home anymore and until every captive come back none of us will feel safe."

"Once we see all home again, we can relax anew. Then we can commence heal," she concluded.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem, people congregated to demonstrate their solidarity for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel says nearly fifty stay in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be living.

Protester a participant explained: "It's necessary do every compromise required for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be safe."

Research now frequently demonstrate that about 70% of Israeli citizens desire the war to finish in return for the release of the hostages.

Gaza Situation

At the site of the music event, those paying respects came together to pay their respects.

From there, the sound of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people indicated the heavy Israeli shelling continued.

In the main city, attacks were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, sector and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern area of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"Once the evening arrives, the dread arrives with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli aerial attack previously, shared.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the attacks. All the night we are sleeping together, clinging, especially my smallest child who rests his head on me all night."

"Continuously we check the updates to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will come back to us."

Humanitarian Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had accepted the remains of half dozen people by the afternoon, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of Khan Younis said two more victims had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli soldiers while seeking assistance to the south, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
