Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
