Netflix Chooses Perfect Performer for Mr. 2 in One Piece Third Season

Baroque Works is set to make a major impact in the next installment of Netflix’s show of One Piece, even if the true confrontation won’t unfold until the next season, and a cherished, audience-beloved member has recently been selected.

Netflix announced Tuesday that Cole Escola has joined the One Piece upcoming season’s lineup and will portray Mr. 2. This character has the ability to change into an exact copy of anyone they’ve made contact with with their right hand. Escola, who is gender non-conforming and prefers they/them pronouns, will portray a version of that figure reimagined as gender non-binary, instead of as a drag queen, in the live-action show, as in the source material and cartoon version.

Escola joins multiple new cast members tasked with bringing the group to life, such as head Sir Crocodile, played by the well-known actor, a talented actress as Miss Goldenweek, and Sendhil Ramamurthy, who also joins the ensemble as the ruler of Alabasta.

Even though Bon Clay is a key figure of the group, the individual will be introduced in One Piece the upcoming installment. Considering season 2 set to cover the Little Garden segment, this signals a major departure in the timing of Bon Clay’s introduction, one that could indicate more adjustments to the plot development.

Escola’s blend of excellent comedic sense and emotional depth makes them a standout choice for the part. Along with their latest vocal work in the youth-focused cartoon movie Boys Go to Jupiter, they earned widespread acclaim and multiple awards for creating and performing in the popular theatrical show Oh Mary!, highlighting the versatility they’ll bring to one of One Piece’s widely praised figures.

The platform’s adapted One Piece show is set to return for its next installment on March 10th, 2026.
