Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period like this with results this poor.”
He concluded, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
