Triple MVP Nikola Jokic suffers a 'devastating' injury to his knee.

The Denver Nuggets star earned the league's Most Valuable Player title in three of the past four years.

Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" knee injury as the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.

Jokic injured himself towards the end of the second quarter during an inadvertent contact with team-mate Spencer Jones.

Jones stepped on the foot of the MVP, and he promptly fell to the ground grabbing his leg.

The veteran player, who leads the league this season in rebounds and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to incurring the setback.

He will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to determine the severity of the injury.

"Instantly, Jokic realized there was a problem," said Nuggets head coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Any player who gets hurt, it's tough to see, most notably a player as talented as Jokic. We will know more tomorrow."

"The team will adjust together. Obviously, right now, I'm focused just about him as a person and the frustration of facing something of that nature."
